These Turmeric Protein Bars will set your spice-loving taste buds ablaze! They’re sweet, they’re warming, and they’re absolutely delicious. They are made using a turmeric latte mix (more on this below) but, if you don’t have one, don’t worry. You can use just regular turmeric powder OR, if you want to kick things up a further notch, you can grate some actual turmeric root into your batter.
Turmeric is extremely colourful and adds an amazing punch of flavour to whatever you are cooking. You don’t need a lot either, a little bit of turmeric goes a long way! Turmeric has the added benefit of having anti-inflammatory properties thanks to curcumin, one of turmeric’s main active ingredients. That’s part of the reason why it’s become as popular as it has!
Turmeric isn’t just nice for savoury foods and lattes though, it’s absolutely gorgeous in turmeric protein bars and truffles! Just a little bit of turmeric adds an amazing punch of flavour that, those of you who like zesty foods will love. The recipe is very simple!
4 grams (1/2 tbsp) turmeric latte mix ( see Note 1 below for swaps)
1/8 cup (15 grams ) pea protein (see Note 2 below for swaps)
1/4 cup (30 grams) ground almonds
2 tbsp (around 36 grams) crunchy peanut butter
1/8 cup (21 grams) agave syrup
2.5 tbsp (18 ml) almond or rice milk (just enough to bind everything together!)
Macros per bar (out of 4): 132kcals, 7.8g carbs, 7.45g protein, 8g fat and 2g fibre!
1. Combine all ingredients in a big bowl and, using your hands, press every thing to get her until you get a big and delicious protein dough. Taste it but control yourself, you don’t want to eat it all yet, even though you’ll likely want to!
2. Press this dough onto a (baking paper-lined) tray. Stick it in the fridge for 15-30 minutes (this will make the bars easier to cut.)
3. Slice and enjoy!
1. If you want to sub the turmeric feel free to use 2 tsp turmeric powder and 2 tbsp coconut flour or almond flour!
2. Regarding pea proteins, we recommend using unflavoured pea protein powder as its very versatile! If you don’t want to use pea, you can use another plant based protein powder.
PS: If you want to turn these bars into truffles, go for it! They turn out gorgeous.
