Chocolate Whey Protein Flan

Chocolate Whey Protein Flan

Flan is such a classic dessert, so why not make a high protein version?

This Chocolate Whey Protein Flan can be made in a regular pudding bowls and the recipe is super easy! All you need are three simple ingredients: whey protein , milk, and powdered gelatine.

1.5 cups chocolate milk
2 scoops  unflavoured whey protein powder
1 sachet gelatine powder (with each sachet ~ 11g)

1. Heat up the milk in a pan and when it gets hot but not hot enough that you can’t stick your (clean) finger in there, take it out.

2. In a big mixing bowl, have your gelatine and whey ready for the milk.

3. Pour the milk into the gelatine and whey and whisk aggressively for a good 3-4 minutes, just to ensure you don’t get any lumps in there.

4. Then, you’re done. Stick the mix in bowls or anything you like and, in a few hours time, there you have it: whey protein flan!

Macros per Serving (out of 3):

 148 kcals
20 g protein
12 g carbs (8 g sugars/0.6 g fibre)
2 g fat (1.8 g sat)

The above mix yielded three servings of creamy, chocolatey deliciousness that must be tried to be fully appreciated!

Remember that the carbs and sugars can always be severely brought down by subbing the chocolate milk (which contained some sugar) with regular old coconut milk or cow’s or a nut’s milk (i.e. almond or hazelnut milk)

  1. Finally got around to making this last night. Yum! Used smaller bowls, so 4 portions and made some swaps based on what I had- unsweetened chocolate almond milk, 1tbsp cocoa powder, and some vanilla liquid stevia. 67cal, 11g pro, 2.2g carbs, 1.5g fat 0.625g fiber. I’m guessing yours was a bit richer, but for just 2 carbs we loved it!

    • Awesome Gilly! wahooo!!! and it’s great because you can use any flavor of protein powder combined with any flavor of milk and get totally different – but equally yum yum – puddings! I love making this 🙂

  2. Anna – I was kind of disappointed. I used only 8g of gelatin and I ended up with rubberized whey. I was expecting it to be in between Jello and Pudding, but it was definitely more like Jello. Maybe I got the conversion wrong???
