Hemp Protein For Recovery

Hemp Protein For Recovery

Hemp protein is a plant-derived protein source. Protein consumption, such as via hemp protein supplementation, after exercise plays an important role in promoting muscle repair and recovery. This can become increasingly important when looking to build and retain lean muscle, as well as during periods of heavy training. Hemp protein is a bio-available protein source that is suitable for most people. Whilst the protein content per serving is not as high as some other protein sources; the high levels of omega-3, fibre and many other nutrients play an important role in helping to keep the body healthy.

Hemp Protein and Recovery

Hemp protein contains 20 amino acids including all of the essential amino acids. Amino acids such as glutamine play a key role in aiding the recovery process. Whilst glutamine is synthesised in many parts of the body, it can still become depleted after periods of training. This leads to reduced performance, immune function and mood. Supplementation with hemp protein can somewhat counteract this. Hemp protein is also a source of leucine, the key amino acid in branched chain amino acids (BCAA‘s).

Hemp Protein and Omega 3

Hemp Protein has an omega 3:6:9 ratio that promotes an anti-inflammatory response and promotes recovery and repair. Typical westernised diets are commonly laden with excessive amounts of omega-6 (pro-inflammatory) and minimal omega-3 (anti-inflammatory). On the other hand, hemp protein is a good source of omega 3 without containing large amounts of omega-6. This means hemp protein is beneficial in a number of different ways including optimising gut health, reducing oxidative stress and reducing muscle inflammation after exercise.

Hemp Protein Micronutrient Content

Hemp Protein seeds, from which Hemp Protein is made, are rich in a variety of micronutrients. these include magnesium, potassium, chlorophyll, sulphur, phytosterols, ascorbic acid, beta-carotene, calcium, fibre, histidine, iron, potassium, phosphorus, riboflavin, niacin and thiamine. Using nutrient dense food sources such as hemp protein assists in a number of bodily functions and helps to support an active lifestyle.
