The Banana Protein Pow

The Banana Protein Pow

You may look at this and think, “Woman! You should have put the cake under the flan since, with the fluff on it, it’s obviously heavier than the flan! Look at the flan, it’s holding on for dear life under all that weight!” To that I say, yes, you’re right. But, you see, I did try to put the flan on top of the cake but the flan was too big, it would have collapsed and I wasn’t really after a banana blob… So, in an attempt to hold on to at least some semblance of structural integrity, I stuck the cake on top. Yadiyadiya 🙂 Oh la la, this was indeed like food from another planet, the kind of thing you’d imagine alien creatures sitting down and munching en famille 😉

Really though, it’s the combination that’s crazy here, not its building blocks per se. It was, after all, just flan, cake, and fluff. Put them together and B
OOM: you get this.

It all began last night. I was getting ready to hit the sack when, out of the blue, I thought, wouldn’t it be nice to have a banana protein flan tomorrow…

Banana Protein Flan Ingredients:

1/2 cup banana whey protein
1 pack powdered gelatin (11g)
300ml coconut milk

Directions:

1. What I did was heat the milk on the stove until it got hot-hot but not boiling hot (e.g. hot enough to drink without burning yourself silly). I then whisked it with the whey and gelatin, divided the mixture into two glasses, and stuck it in the fridge overnight.

2. The plan for this whole thing ‘came to me’ this morning, as I opened the fridge and saw the above mentioned bad boys (aka, the flans). I made the protein cake by just mixing together a few ingredients and baking the whole thing at 180 C (356 F) for around 20 minutes in a little silicone baking loaf tray. You can make any protein cake you want though (preferably vanilla).

Protein Cake Ingredients:

1/2 cup liquid egg whites
1/4 cup vanilla brown rice protein
1/8 cup coconut flour
1/8 cup pumpkin puree
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon cinnamon

Directions:

I took this out, let it cool, walked myself over to the gym, did mah thing, came home, and cut out a circle out of the middle of the cake. Then, I got down to making my protein fluff.

 Protein Fluff Ingredients:

1 sliced frozen banana
1 scoop vanilla whey
1/4 cup coconut milk

 Directions:

I just handheld-blended the banana with the whey and milk and then proceeded to electrically-whisk it for a good three to four minutes. When the fluff was done, it was assembly and munching time: cake on flan -> fluff on cake -> spoon through madness -> and…. BOOM! -> an explosion of insane DELICIOUSNESSS!

Macros per Serving (out of 1):

458kcals
32g protein
60g carbs (19.5g sugars)
9.5g fat (7.1g sat)
8.1g fiber

This was truly spectacular, oh! The flan turned out creme-bruleeish (very creamy and thick), the fluff was wonderful, and the vanilla cinnamonness of the cake was JUST what was needed to bring the whole thing together into this surreally yummy thing! Wala la la laaa!
