Loaded Pancakes, The Meal of Champions

Who says pancakes are just for pancake day?

Here at Protein Works, we’re big fans of the humble pancake, so much so that we made our very own Loaded Protein Pancake Mix. It’s not only the best tasting on the market, just ask Nikki:

“Honestly the pancakes are AMAZING I’m so happy I tried them. They’re fluffy, so easy to make, taste wonderful and taste like proper pancakes not like other brands that I’ve tried that are a rubbery mess loaded with sweetness. I will be a regular buyer of these, I can’t wait to try dessert options with them and other flavours.”

But it also uses our innovative tri-protein blend of whey, milk and egg proteins to provide you with 20g+ of protein and 25g of carbs per serving, making these the perfect high-protein snack.

In this article, we’re going to show you how you can use our Loaded Pancake Mix to make envy-inducing sweet and savoury pancakes.

Savoury Ham & Cheese Pancakes

We don’t know about you, but around here we tend to believe you can never go wrong with a classic ham and cheese combination, so why not get your savoury on and try this incredible pancake.

For this recipe, we’re going to use the natural flavour Loaded Pancake Mix, sliced ham and cheddar of your choosing. Here’s how you do it:

  • Add 55g (two large 70ml scoops) to 150ml of milk or water
  • Mix lightly with a fork for 60 secs or so (the mix should still have a few lumps in it)
  • Leave the batter to rest for 1 -2 minutes and gently heat a non-stick pan*
  • When hot add 2 tablespoons of the batter into the pan
  • Repeat this to create 2 – 3 pancakes in the pan
  • Cook on a low-medium for one and a half minutes until the pancake “fluffs” up
  • Flip it and cook for another minute until evenly golden brown on both sides
  • Immediately take the hot pancakes out of the pan

* with a light coating of oil over moderate heat, we recommend using Fry light if you’re looking for something with fewer calories

Ok, so now you know how to make the pancakes, here’s where it gets fun. You have 2 main options, you can create loaded sandwiches using the pancakes as bread with the ham and cheese in between, old school picnic style.

Alternatively, you can create a cheese and ham tower, where you continue to stack to pancakes on top of each other with a layer of ham and cheese in between each one.

Other ideas:

  • Add mustard for an extra little flavour kick
  • Experiment with different cheeses
  • Create larger pancakes go continental with French-style crepes

Sweet Banoffee Pancakes

Another British classic here, if you like sweet stuff you’re going to love this. Not only does it taste divine but it’s packed full of protein.

You’ll need a few extra bits for this one. Again, we’ll be using the natural flavour Loaded Pancake Mix, then we’ll also be using our zero calorie Zero Syrups  and Casein Protein in Banana Smooth.
First, you’ll make up the topping:

  • Add 30g (one scoop) to a bowl
  • Slowly add milk, mixing the whole time until there is no powder left
  • It should be a smooth but thick-ish mousse-like consistency

Then you’ll make the pancakes:

Now it’s time to assemble. Stack up your pancakes adding a little of your casein mix and syrup in each layer. When you’ve stacked all your pancakes add a big dollop of casein mix the top, drizzle over the syrup, and enjoy. You’ve earnt it.

Other ideas:

  • Add real chunks of banana for some extra carbs
  • Crush up digestive biscuits and sprinkle on top to take it to the next level
