Diet Vegan Protein Powder
The most common question we get asked on social media is, “What’s the best vegan protein powder for fat loss and dieting?” (Again) the short answer is the one your taste buds and tummy jointly love. But here is some food for thought (bad pun intended). Research published in the Journal of Nutrition 2011 tested exactly which type of protein was best for producing a feeling of satiety.
Scientists took a group of 32 subjects and randomly assigned them to consume 20g of casein protein, whey protein or pea protein 30 minutes before eating a meal and their appetite and desire to eat that meal was then measured. What did they find? Basically, the “pea protein (and casein) showed a stronger effect on food intake compared to whey when consumed as a preload”. This means the power of pea-based protein came out on top in keeping hunger at bay. Helping you feel fuller for longer and therefore sticking to your diet. Similar results have also been found with hemp protein and soy protein that topped the league when it came to curbing cravings and fighting fat compared to most diary proteins.
Muscle Building Vegan Protein Powder
Here is an interesting fact. Did you know that our plant-based proteins are among the most used by non-vegan strength athletes. Why? Because they deliver a completely different (and much appreciated by the body) amino profile to the muscles. This is based on research from The Journal of Nutrition that found using different proteins essentially prolong the delivery of, “protein synthesis in human skeletal muscle".
This is the repair and regrowth process and by stocking the gym bag and kitchen cupboard with an amazing vegan protein like soy or hemp, you’re basically “feeding” your muscles a different amino profile as well as smaller often forgotten nutrients like potassium, zinc, iron, vitamin-E, phosphorous as well as the full B-complex, arginine and glutamine. The result? Great muscle gains.
Recovery Vegan Protein Powder
Vegan protein shakes have seen a huge surge in popularity over the past decade. Why? Because (ethical reasons aside), they just make nutritional sense. See it’s widely known that athletes and anyone leading an active lifestyle has an elevated need for fats, carbs and protein. These are the body’s macronutrients and we need them in large quantities in the diet.
But recently nutritionists have shown it’s not just about eating the right quantity of food, but the right quality too. This is why research from the International Journal of Sports Nutrition & Exercise Metabolism stated, “Training places large energy demands on athletes and causes a high turnover of vitamins through sweat losses, metabolism, and the musculoskeletal repair process” and this is exactly why vegan protein shakes are being so widely used. All because research published by the American College of Sports Medicine states that plant-based, “Diets high in unrefined plant foods are associated with beneficial effects on overall health, lifespan, immune function and cardiovascular health.”
